The Giver’s Ledger: Insights on Smart Giving for Stronger Impact

The Givers’ Ledger is my new monthly newsletter designed to inspire action and provide the tools to make a difference—whether through personal financial empowerment, strategic philanthropy, or nonprofit capacity building. This newsletter is for those who believe that meaningful change starts with knowledge and grows through thoughtful, intentional action.

My mom was a social worker who taught me we were lucky and we should give back. Her lesson shaped me, and now I want to share what I've learned and continue to discover.

Philanthropy has traditionally been a “snob” word, perceived as a snob “occupation or pastime for the affluent. I want to show you that GIVING can be something everyone can do. Time, talent, and treasure – we all have at least one, and some of us have two or three. Everyone can make a difference!

Our government used to be focused on public service, the greater good of our community and country, giving a hand up to the less fortunate so we’d all have a decent life. That is no longer true. The individualistic American ideal has turned our current government and politics into selfish, self-serving individuals who don’t care about others. Additionally, the current anti-DEI movement is a travesty. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access is the American dream. The history of where we’ve been is sometimes ugly. But it’s the history of all of us. All of us are immigrants if you go back far enough.

We want to learn from history. Knowing your history is a building block from which you move forward.

I refuse to hide from the ridiculously prohibited words DEI or from promoting what’s right. I will curate and share articles and profiles of great DEIA groups in towns, and more. Furthermore, all of us need to learn advocacy. Nonprofits must learn to advocate and educate politicians about what they do and who they help. Donors and the caring need to advocate for those without a voice. We cannot be silent. Raising our voice and raising the consciousness of others is a way to progress. I believe in “the squeaky wheel” as you’ll soon learn!
